Medication is the most effective treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), a common neurobehavioral disorder of childhood. We used data from the 2007-2008 National Survey of Children’s Health to calculate weighted estimates of parent-reported ADHD and medication treatment among US children aged 4 to 17 years, by state and sex-stratified age.

Diabetes has steadily increased in prevalence, becoming one of the nation’s most challenging public health threats. Prevalence among adults is now more than 10%, and diabetes is the leading cause of nontraumatic lower-extremity amputation, end-stage kidney disease, and blindness; it more than doubles the risk of heart disease, stroke, and disability.

Consumer-directed health plans combine lower premiums with high annual deductibles, Internet-based quality-of-care information, and health savings mechanisms. These plans may encourage members to seek better value for health expenditures but may also decrease essential care.
