CDC: Tips From Former Smokers -- Rose's Ad

Rose developed lung cancer from smoking cigarettes. In this TV ad for CDC's Tips From Former Smokers campaign, she talks about her lung surgery and difficult recovery. Problems kept Rose in the hospital for a month with a plastic chest tube to drain fluids. Every day, she prayed that the painful tube would come out. Rose's tip is "Be careful what you wish for." There was more pain to come for Rose when the chest tube finally came out. Rose died in January 2015. She was 60. Rose started smoking at 13, and before long, she was spending her school lunch money on cigarettes instead of food. Her addiction to cigarettes led to lung cancer—and the fight of her life. In this video from CDC's Tips From Former Smokers campaign, Rose talks about living with cancer. She never really believed that she would get cancer from smoking—not her. Rose had chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery (twice) to fight the disease. At age 60, she died from lung cancer caused by smoking.
