Oil Spill Response - Public Health and Disaster Response
On Tuesday, April 20, an explosion aboard the Deep Water Horizon sunk the drilling rig, causing oil to spill into the Gulf of Mexico. CDC and ATSDR responders are in close communication with other federal agencies and with state health departments, and will work together to recommend measures to protect the public’s health. Public health officials will remain vigilant to ensure that residents, responders and volunteers have answers about how the oil may affect their health. CDC recommends that residents continue to pay attention to local and state health officials’ specific health and safety recommendations for their areas
