The Health Studies Branch (HSB) provides expertise and leadership in epidemiology to local, state, federal and international partners to help them prepare for and respond to natural and man-made public health disasters. To do this, HSB conducts surveillance, rapid needs assessments, epidemiology studies, and provides training in disaster epidemiology to public health professionals.

The Health Studies Branch (HSB) leads CDC’s Clean Water for Heath Program (CWH), focuses on drinking water sources that are not regulated by the Safe Drinking Water Act. CWH conducts activities in three areas: water-related exposure and outcome research, the Private Well Initiative, and technical assistance and outbreak response.

NCEH provides leadership to promote health and quality of life by preventing or controlling those diseases, birth defects, or disabilities resulting from interaction between people and the environment. Site has information/education resources on a broad range of topics, including asthma, birth defects, radiation, sanitation, lead in blood, and more.
