If you are the recipient of a grant from the NIH, there is a great deal of information that your organization will need in order to be successful stewards of federal funds. The NIH Welcome Wagon Letter provides information and resources for new grantee organizations on how to manage the award. Meet Eunah Lee, a summer intern in the Department of Transfusion Medicine at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center. Lee is working with various blood group systems. She is trying to sequence the genetic code of the full length protein that encodes the Scianna blood group system. Highly interested in the ethics of genetics sciences, Lee's advice for students looking to get involved in a career in medical science is to find a good mentor. NINDS Clinical Director Dr. Avindra Nath meets with clinical trial participant Mr. John Michael. Dr. Nath and his research team are conducting an NIH study to better understand amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS. In the video, Mr. Michael shares his experience as a trial participant while Dr. Nath discusses his research. “Ever since being diagnosed in January of ’14, I kind of made it a mission of mine to find out as much as I can, what’s available out there as treatments, trials, and just my way of giving back, whether it helps me directly or somebody who comes after me,” Mr. Michael says.
