La fibromialgia es una enfermedad caracterizada por dolor a largo plazo (crónico) que afecta a 5 millones o más de estadounidenses de 18 años o más. Por razones desconocidas, la mayoría de las personas diagnosticadas con fibromialgia son mujeres, si bien los hombres y los niños también pueden verse afectados. Las personas con determinados trastornos, como la artritis reumatoide o el lupus, también pueden desarrollar fibromialgia, lo que podría afectar el curso de su enfermedad y el tratamiento.

Meet Eunah Lee, a summer intern in the Department of Transfusion Medicine at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center. Lee is working with various blood group systems. She is trying to sequence the genetic code of the full length protein that encodes the Scianna blood group system. Highly interested in the ethics of genetics sciences, Lee's advice for students looking to get involved in a career in medical science is to find a good mentor.
